The War Cross of Honor without Swords was instituted together with the version with swords by the Honorary Association of
German World War Participants on March 31, 1925 for its members. The Grand Master's Office was responsible for the award,
which decided on the award upon application. Grandmaster was the retired Prussian Major General Grunert.
The association was founded on December 30, 1924 and was based in Munich.
The War Cross of Honor without Swords was awarded to people who worked in home formations or in the auxiliary service
and who demonstrably fulfilled their duty to the fatherland. The cross could also be awarded to women and people
who had not been drafted, but who worked for the Red Cross in caring for the wounded and the sick,
or who had rendered special services in the service of charity at home.
As with the cross with swords, papers had to be presented and at least 2 witnesses had to be named.
The version without swords is rarer than the cross with swords and therefore has a higher value.
Eight-pointed cross (Maltese cross) in bronze with raised edges. The inside of the cross arms are finely grained.
Front and back with a round central shield embossed with it. Between the arms of the cross, adjacent to the central shield,
is an oak leaf wreath. Between the tips of the upper arm of the cross a decoration with an embossed small ring to hold the ribbon ring.
